Artis Senior Living of Chestnut Ridge is proud to offer a monthly caregiver support group to the community. This support group is for all caregivers who have a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or cognitive loss.

Dementia 360: Seeing the Condition From Everyone's Point of View

Join us for this interactive program to discover how to look at dementia from various points of view. Whether you’re the spouse, adult child and/or caregiver, you will learn tools to better understand the dementia journey.
We will compare normal aging and dementia-related changes that affect behaviors, language skills, memory and learning, thinking and reasoning, motor skills and sensory processing. We will also discuss the impact of dementia changes on family roles and relationships, as well as expectations and interactions with care providers.

As people age, their brains become more vulnerable to chemical changes, damage and disease. Recognizing the differences among these changes is vital in providing the best possible care and responding effectively when changes are noted.
Each of the three D’s: delirium, dementia and depression/ anxiety has a unique onset, duration, impact on alertness and arousal, possible causes and treatment recommendations. This session will help providers recognize and respond more accurately to reduce ‘non-helpful’ hospitalizations, prevent delays in medical attention for acute illness, non-treatment of treatable conditions and premature discharge of residents who might be able to stay in the community.
